Aboriginal Women on the Move

Was sent this today.
Take a look.
There's a spot for you to offer them a financial contribution for their bike ride across the country.

Here are a few relevant stats:

It is estimated that between 75% and 90% of women in some northern Aboriginal communities are abused. The same study found that 40% of children in Northern communities had been physically abused by a family member. (Dumont-Smith, Claudette and Pauline Sioui-Labelle (1991). National Family Violence Survey: Phase One. Ottawa: Aboriginal Nurses of Canada.)

51% of women in Canada have experienced violence. (Violence Against Women Survey, Statistics Canada, 1993)

In Canada, 1 in every 5 women abused by a partner is assaulted during
pregnancy. (Statistics Canada, Family Violence in Canada, 1999).

Approximately one to two women per week are murdered by a partner or ex-partner in Canada. (Statistics Canada, The Daily, Wednesday, September 25, 2002, Homicides)

Police were aware of previous domestic violence in about 70% of homicides
involving estranged female spouses. (Statistics Canada, Family Violence in Canada, A Statistical Profile 2004, p. 39).
