The people of Grassy Narrows — an Anishnabe community in northwestern Ontario — have suffered the flooding of their lands, the poisoning of their waters and the clear cutting of their traditional hunting and trapping territories.

Amnesty International has repeatedly called on the Government of Ontario to respect the right of the people of Grassy Narrows to use and benefit from their historic territory.

From April 16-20, an Amnesty International research mission traveled to Grassy Narrows to investigate the consequences of the province’s failure to respect their rights. A research team of four people, including Alex Neve, the Secretary General of Amnesty International Canada, met with community members to discuss the impacts of government decisions on health, culture and livelihood.
